The effects of online technology

1)

I do not agree with James Murdoch's statement of the BBC not being allowed to provide news free online as due to the evolving, new and digital technology, it is more likely that there will be a completely different target audience and that due to this being free, I feel that more people will be interested within the BBC providing the news for free as if they do not do this any more, then their competitors who offer free news may gain a competitive advantage over them and may lead to the BBC ultimately losing out on their sales and profits.

2)

Furthermore, due to the news often being free within today's society, I feel that what Ruper Murdoch did by putting the two papers of The Times and The Sun behind a paywall was not right as by doing this may mean that not mnay people would purchase these newspapers as opposed to the other newspapers being free, this may mean that they are advertising their newspaper brands and may overall mean that more people would not buy the newspapers behind a paywall as they would obviously not be free and would get the free newspapers as they would not be paying anything and I strongly believe that The Times and The Sun's sales will decrease as people would have to be paying for their news and even though this may generate some income for the newspapers due to their so-called factor of convenience however, ultimately I feel that they may lose their place within the market as other free papers may take over and will be read more.
